rush exit stage left japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of the double live album Exit…Stage Left by Rush, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Exit…Stage Left is a 1981 Japanese pressing on the Epic label.

The cover is M- with trace corner wear.  The obi is M-.  The lyric insert is M-.

The discs are M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Rush LP, as their albums sold quite poorly in Japan.

Background: Released in 1981, Exit…Stage Left  was the second live album by Rush.

The album reached #10 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Platinum by the RIAA.

Allmusic.com gave Exit…Stage Left  a 3 star review:

The album turned out to be the polar opposite of its predecessor, 1976’s raw and direct All the World’s a Stage; in fact, the performances often sound identical to the recently released studio versions. The contagious energy that helped make All the World’s a Stage such a success is muted, replaced by workmanlike renditions that border on the uninspired. There’s no denying the high quality of the songs selected — “Spirit of Radio,” “Tom Sawyer,” “Xanadu,” “The Trees,” “Closer to the Heart,” “Jacob’s Ladder” — it’s just that the performances rarely catch fire. Compared to Rush’s three other concert albums (the aforementioned All the World’s a Stage, 1988’s A Show of Hands, and 1998’s Different Stages), Exit…Stage Left is probably the weakest.

Rush – Caress of Steel Japan LP with obi

rush caress of steel japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of Caress of Steel by Rush, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Caress of Steel is a 1978 Japanese pressing on the Mercury label of an album that was originally released in 1975.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with slight corner wear.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a rare Rush LP, as their early albums sold poorly in Japan.

Background: Released in 1975, Caress of Steel was the third album by Canadian band Rush.

The album reached #148 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Caress of Steel this review:

When Rush finished their third album, Caress of Steel, the trio was assured that they had created their breakthrough masterpiece. But when the album dropped off the charts soon after its release, it proved otherwise. While it was Rush’s first release that fully explored their prog rock side, it did not contain the catchy and more traditional elements of their future popular work — it’s quite often too indulgent and pretentious for a mainstream rock audience to latch onto.

Rush – Moving Pictures Japan LP with obi

rush moving pictures japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Moving Pictures by Rush, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Moving Pictures is an original 1981 Japanese issue on the Epic label.

The cover is VG with slight corner wear and quite a bit of wear at the upper right hand corner (see photo.)  The cover is not split, but there is about 8 cm of wear.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.  The record company postcard is M-

The disc is M-with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a rare Rush LP, as Rush albums sold quite poorly in Japan.

Background: Released in 1981, Moving Pictures was the eighth studio album by Rush.  The album was the band’s biggest-selling album up to that time, reaching #1 in Canada and #3 on the U.S. and the UK album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Moving Pictures a rare 5 star review:

Not only is 1981’s Moving Pictures Rush’s best album, it is undeniably one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time. The new wave meets hard rock approach of Permanent Waves is honed to perfection — all seven of the tracks are classics (four are still featured regularly in concert and on classic rock radio). While other hard rock bands at the time experimented unsuccessfully with other musical styles, Rush were one of the few to successfully cross over. …Rush proved with Moving Pictures that there was still uncharted territory to explore within the hard rock format, and were rewarded with their most enduring and popular album.

Rush – Rush Through Time original 1979 Netherlands picture disc LP

rush through time picture disc LP

Offered for sale is a limited edition picture disc of the compilation LP Rush Through Time, released only in the Netherlands in 1979.

Note: Though issued in the Netherlands as a domestic LP with a Dutch catalog number, the records were actually pressed in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of Rush Through Time is a 1979 Dutch pressing on the Epic label.

The cover is M-.  The disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A beautiful example of an attractive picture disc that has become surprisingly hard to find.

Background: Rush Through Time was the first Rush compilation LP, but for whatever reason, it was issued only in Europe, and not in the United States or Canada.

The album, originally issued only in the Netherlands and only as a picture disc, contained tracks from the Fly by Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, and A Farewell to Kings LPs.  The album was later issued as a standard black-vinyl LP.

Despite being pressed in the United States, the picture disc edition of the album was not widely imported back into the United States when new, and the album has always been hard to find.

Tracks are:

  • Fly By Night
  • Making Memories
  • Bastille Day
  • Something for Nothing
  • Cinderella Man
  • Anthem
  • Overture/Temples of Syrinx
  • The Twilight Zone
  • Best I Can
  • Closer to the Heart
  • In the End

Neil Young – After the Gold Rush sealed 2009 U.S. 140 gram LP

neil young after the gold rush sealed 2009 u.s. lp

Note: This LP was issued as both a 140 gram pressing and on heavier 180 gram vinyl.  The only difference is the bar code; this copy has the bar code for the 140 gram pressing.

About this copy: This copy of After the Gold Rush is a 2009 U.S. pressing on the Reprise label of an album that was originally released in 1970.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.  The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.

There is a hype sticker on the front wrap that says “A Classic Neil Young Album Mastered from the Original Analog Master Tapes.”

This copy has a barcode sticker on the back cover with the number 0 93624 97635 6.  This is the barcode for the 140 gram pressing.

A nice copy of a scarce Neil Young LP.

Background: Released in 1970, After the Gold Rush was the third solo album by Neil Young.

The album reached #8 on the U.S. album charts and #7 in the UK.

Allmusic.com gave After the Gold Rush a 5 star review:

In the 15 months between the release of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and After the Gold Rush, Neil Young issued a series of recordings in different styles that could have prepared his listeners for the differences between the two LPs. His two compositions on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album Déjà Vu, “Helpless” and “Country Girl,” returned him to the folk and country styles he had pursued before delving into the hard rock of Everybody Knows; two other singles, “Sugar Mountain” and “Oh, Lonesome Me,” also emphasized those roots. But “Ohio,” a CSNY single, rocked as hard as anything on the second album. …But much of After the Gold Rush consisted of country-folk love songs, which consolidated the audience Young had earned through his tours and recordings with CSNY; its dark yet hopeful tone matched the tenor of the times in 1970, making it one of the definitive singer/songwriter albums, and it has remained among Young’s major achievements.

Rush – 2112 1981 Japan LP with obi

rush 2112 japan lp

Offered for sale is a Japanese pressing of 2112 by Rush, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of 2112 is a 1981 Japanese pressing on the Epic label of an LP that was originally released in 1976.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with faint general wear and a small bend in the upper right hand corner.

The obi is VG++, with a tiny tear near the top edge.  The lyric insert is M-.

The disc is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a rare Rush LP, as their albums sold poorly in Japan.

Background: Released in 1976, 2112 was the fourth LP by Rush, and their first LP to crack the U.S. top 100 on the album charts.

Allmusic.com gave 2112 a 4 1/2 star review:

Whereas Rush’s first two releases, their self-titled debut and Fly by Night, helped create a buzz among hard rock fans worldwide, the more progressive third release, Caress of Steel, confused many of their supporters. Rush knew it was now or never with their fourth release, and they delivered just in time — 1976’s 2112 proved to be their much sought-after commercial breakthrough and remains one of their most popular albums….2112 is widely considered by Rush fans as their first true “classic” album, the first in a string of similarly high-quality albums.

Rush – Grace Under Pressure sealed original Japan LP with obi

rush grace under pressure japan lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed original Japanese pressing of Grace Under Pressure by Rush, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Grace Under Pressure is a 1984 Japanese pressing on the Epic label.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.

A virtually perfect copy of a rare Rush LP.  This will likely be your final upgrade.

Background: Released in 1984, Grace Under Pressure was the tenth studio album by Rush.  The album reached #5 on the UK charts and #10 in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Grace Under Pressure a 3 star review:

Grace Under Pressure was the first Rush album since 1975’s Fly by Night to not be produced by Terry Brown, who was replaced by Peter Henderson (Supertramp, Paul McCartney). The change resulted in a slightly more accessible sound than its predecessor, Signals, and marked the beginning of a period where many Rush fans feel that synths and electronics were used too prominently — in effect pushing guitarist Alex Lifeson into the background. … Whereas most other rock bands formed in the 1970s put out unfocused and uninspired work in the 1980s (which sounds very dated), Rush’s Grace Under Pressure remains an exception.

Rush – Counterparts 1993 German LP

Rush - Counterparts 1993 German LP

Offered for sale is an original German pressing of Counterparts by Rush.

When first released, this album was not sold on vinyl in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of Counterparts is a 1993 German pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is M- and is still in the original shrink wrap.  The custom inner sleeve is M- and has no splits.

The disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of one of Rush’s rarest albums.

Background: Released in 1993, Counterparts was the fifteenth album by Rush.

The album reached #2 on the U.S. album charts and #14 on the UK album chart.

Allmusic.com gave Counterparts a 3 1/2 star review:

By 1993, alternative rock had arrived in a big way, and surprisingly, Canadian veterans Rush were game, releasing their most honest and organic rock & roll record in over a decade with Counterparts. Opener “Animate” is straightforward enough, but doesn’t even hint at the guitar ferocity and lyrical angst of “Stick it Out,” a song which undoubtedly polarizes Rush fans to this day. … Pure hard rock resurfaces on “Cold Fire,” but it is the largely acoustic “Nobody’s Hero” which provides the album’s most gripping moment with an impassioned plea for HIV consciousness and understanding.
