elvis costello my aim is true belgian blue vinyl lp

Offered for sale is a copy of the limited edition blue vinyl pressing of My Aim is True, the debut LP by Elvis Costello, released in Belgium.

About this copy: This copy of My Aim is True is a 1978 Belgian pressing on the Stiff Records label.

The cover is VG++ and close to M- with very slight wear on the back cover.  There are no splits.

The blue vinyl disc is M- and may be unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a scarce Elvis Costello LP and the first copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1977, My Aim is True was the first album by Elvis Costello.

The album reached #14 on the UK album charts and #32 on the U.S. chart.

Allmusic.com gave My Aim Is True a 5 star review:

Elvis Costello was as much a pub rocker as he was a punk rocker and nowhere is that more evident than on his debut, My Aim Is True. It’s not just that Clover, a San Franciscan rock outfit led by Huey Lewis (absent here), back him here, not the Attractions; it’s that his sensibility is borrowed from the pile-driving rock & roll and folksy introspection of pub rockers like Brinsley Schwarz, adding touches of cult singer/songwriters like Randy Newman and David Ackles. Then, there’s the infusion of pure nastiness and cynical humor, which is pure Costello. That blend of classicist sensibilities and cleverness make this collection of shiny roots rock a punk record — it informs his nervy performances and his prickly songs….” Costello went on to more ambitious territory fairly quickly, but My Aim Is True is a phenomenal debut, capturing a songwriter and musician whose words were as rich and clever as his music.

Elvis Presley – Clambake 1967 U.S. stereo LP with bonus photo

elvis presley clambake u.s. stereo LP

Offered for sale is an original U.S. stereo pressing of the soundtrack to Clambake by Elvis Presley, including the bonus photo.

About this copy: This copy of Clambake is a 1967 U.S. stereo pressing on the RCA label.

The cover is VG+ with slight edge and corner wear and a neatly repaired 2″ (5 cm) split at the center of the top seam.

The bonus photo is M-.  The RCA inner sleeve is VG with small splits on three sides.

The disc is VG+ with a couple of very light sleeve scuffs.  It’s a clean disc that has had little play.

A nice copy of an album that’s hard to find complete.

Background: Released in 1967, Clambake was the sixteenth soundtrack album by Elvis Presley, and the last to be released in the United States in both stereo and mono.

The album reached #40 on the U.S. album chart and #39 on the UK chart.

Allmusic.com gave Clambake a 3 star review:

Kicking off with a vigorous, vital rendition of Jerry Reed’s “Guitar Man” — a song Elvis loved so much he had to record it, publishing deals be damned — Clambake initially seems to deliver a definitive break from Presley’s soundtrack doldrums, but that’s only because “Guitar Man” has nothing to do with Clambake, the film. The good news is, “Guitar Man” is nevertheless a harbinger for a good portion of the rest of the album, which was recorded once Elvis reached a breaking point with the nonsense he had to record for his films…. This isn’t enough to make Clambake a great album, but it does place it on the level of something like Spinout, where the non-movie tracks elevate the soundtrack cuts.

Background:  Armed Forces was Elvis Costello’s third album, and the album offered his first real success, reaching #10 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave Armed Forces a 5 star review:

After releasing and touring the intense This Year’s Model, Elvis Costello quickly returned to the studio with the Attractions to record his third album, Armed Forces. In contrast to the stripped-down pop and rock of his first two albums, Armed Forces boasted a detailed and textured pop production, but it was hardly lavish. However, the more spacious arrangements — complete with ringing pianos, echoing reverb, layered guitars, and harmonies — accent Costello’s melodies, making the record more accessible than his first two albums…. It’s a dense but accessible pop record and ranks as his third masterpiece in a row.

Elvis Presley – Elvis’ Golden Records sealed U.S. gold vinyl LP

elvis golden records gold vinyl u.s. lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition U.S. gold vinyl pressing of Elvis’ Golden Records by Elvis Presley.

This colored vinyl LP was sold exclusively through Walmart stores in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of Elvis’ Golden Records is a 2020 U.S. mono pressing on the RCA/Legacy label of an album that was originally released in 1958.

As the album is still sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.  There is a hype sticker attached to the wrap that says “Exclusive Featuring 14 of Elvis’ Greatest Hits! on Gold Vinyl.”

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background: Released in 1958, Elvis’ Golden Records was the first compilation album by Elvis Presley.

The album reached #3 on the U.S. album chart and #2 on the UK chart.

Allmusic.com gave Elvis’ Golden Records a 3 1/2 star review:

This was rock & roll’s first greatest-hits album, and it set the standard for all others to follow. As originally conceived, it was a 14-song collection of most of the King’s biggest hits up to that time, released on the eve of his start of military service — a dearth of material being in the offing, it seemed only logical to assemble these hits. Each of the 14 songs had earned a Gold record award for a million sales, a record unequaled at that time by anyone else in rock & roll.

Elvis Presley – Christmas Album limited U.S. green vinyl LP

Elvis Presley - Christmas Album U.S. green vinyl LP

Offered for sale is a limited edition U.S. green vinyl pressing of the Elvis Christmas Album by Elvis Presley

This 1985 reissue duplicates the gatefold cover and photo booklet from the original 1957 release.

About this copy: This copy of Elvis Christmas Album is a 1985 U.S. pressing on the RCA label of an album that was originally released in 1957.

The cover is M-; there is a small saw mark near the upper right hand corner.

The green vinyl disc is M- and looks unplayed.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a classic LP.

Background: Released in 1957, Elvis Christmas Album was the third album by Elvis Presley.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album chart and #2 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave Elvis Christmas Album a 4 1/2 star review:

Elvis’ 1957 original Christmas album is one of his most inspired early outings and the first time he tackled anything resembling a thematic concept. Split evenly between rockers and bluesy numbers like “Santa Claus Is Back in Town,” “Blue Christmas,” and “Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me,” perennials like “White Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and “Silent Night,” and straight-ahead gospel favorites like “I Believe,” “Peace in the Valley” and “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” the disc revealed a different side of the rocker for the first time on a public instead conditioned to expect something outrageous. One of the King’s shining moments, this is quite simply still one of the best holiday albums available.

Elvis Presley -The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters German 6 LP box set

Elvis Presley -The King Of Rock 'N' Roll: The Complete 50's Masters German LP

Offered for sale is a copy of the 1992 6 LP German box set The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters by Elvis Presley.

This album was not released on vinyl in the United States.

About this copy: This copy of The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters is a 1992 German pressing on the RCA label.

This box set includes:

  • 6 LPs, each in a custom sleeve
  • 3 8″x10″ black and white photos
  • A 48 page photo booklet
  • A certificate of authenticity

The box, booklet, certificate, and photos are M-.  The box has a hype sticker indicating the contents and noting that production was limited to 15,000 copies.

The custom inner sleeves are VG++ with slight wear, but no splits.

The 6 discs are VG+, with slight sleeve scuffs, though the discs are unplayed.

Note: This copy comes from our personal collection.  We bought several copies of this album new from a wholesaler in the UK and all of the copies we received had discs with slight scuffs.  This likely had to do with the paper used for the inner sleeves.  We filed this copy on the shelf when we bought it and have never played it.

A nice copy of a scarce (and very good) Elvis set.

Background: Released in 1992, The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters  was a compilation of every song Elvis Presley recorded during the 1950s.

Released only on compact disc and cassette in the U.S., the album reached #159 on the U.S. album chart.

Allmusic.com gave The King Of Rock ‘N’ Roll: The Complete 50’s Masters a 5 star review:

Most of this is dynamic, thrilling music that presents Elvis at his very best. Historically, this is surely essential, but what makes the box so great is that it’s so entertaining, providing ample proof that Elvis’ music is indeed every bit as influential and timeless as the history books state.

Elvis Costello – My Aim is True/This Year’s Model sealed promotional picture disc LP

elvis costello - promotional u.s. picture disc lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed limited edition promotional picture disc-only LP titled My Aim is True/This Year’s Model by Elvis Costello.

About this copy: This copy of My Aim is True/This Year’s Model is a sealed promotional copy on the Columbia label, released in 1979.

As the album is sealed, the record is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears or holes.  Beautiful copy!

A nice copy of a scarce Elvis Costello item.

Background: Issued at about the same time as Armed Forces in early 1979, My Aim is True/This Year’s Model was issued to radio stations to encourage play of material from Elvis Costello’s first two LPs.

That’s an odd thing to do, since the sound quality of picture discs makes them unsuitable for airplay.

This album was released only as a picture disc, and that picture disc was issued only as a promotional item.

Side one contains tracks from My Aim is True:

  • Welcome To The Working Week
  • Miracle Man
  • (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes
  • Less Than Zero
  • Alison
  • Watching The Detectives

  • Hand In Hand
  • No Action
  • This Year’s Girl
  • Lip Service
  • Living In Paradise

Elvis Presley – Elvis Golden Records Vol 2. 1984 sealed virgin vinyl remastered U.S. mono LP

elvis presley - elvis' golden records vol. 2 u.s. digitally remastered mono lp

Offered for sale is a still sealed digitally remastered mono pressing of Elvis’ Golden Records Vol 2. by Elvis Presley, complete with the original “obi” banner.

This album is also known as 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong: Elvis’ Golden Records Vol. 2.

About this copy: This copy of Elvis’ Golden Records Vol 2 is a 1984 pressing on the RCA label of an album that was originally released in 1959.

As the record is still sealed, the disc is presumably new and unplayed.

The wrap is fully intact with no rips, tears, or holes.

The “obi” banner reads, “A Collectible – The Definitive Rock Classic Restored To Original Mono Digitally Remastered Quality Pressing On Heavy Virgin Vinyl.”

The “obi” is fully intact with no tears.  There is a sticker on the wrap indicating that it was imported from the United States, as this particular copy was originally sold in Canada, though it is a U.S. pressing.

A nice copy of a classic LP that is very difficult to find complete, as the banner was usually discarded after purchase.

Background:  Released in March, 1958, Elvis’ Golden Records was the first compilation album by Elvis Presley.

The album reached #31 on the U.S. charts and has sold more than one million copies.

The album was originally released in mono, but in the late 1950s, a rechanneled stereo version became available for stereo buyers.  This version added a lot of reverb and sounded terrible compared to the original mono.

When mono albums were discontinued in 1968, the “fake stereo” version of this album was the only version available for purchase.

In 1984, RCA Records finally reissued the album in the original mono and pressed the records on high-quality virgin vinyl.  These releases had a banner, similar to the “obi” found on Japanese releases, that advertised the albums virtues.

Allmusic.com gave Elvis Presley a 4 1/2 star review:

The release of this album, seen in its proper historical context, is an indicator of just how bright Elvis Presley’s star shone in the late ’50s. His first hits collection was issued in March 1958, on the eve of his going into the Army; his second was the first “volume two” greatest-hits album ever issued on a rock & roll star, appearing weeks ahead of his leaving the Army in March 1960. Anyone who buys the notion that Elvis was “tamed” during his first years at RCA will find revelation in “A Big Hunk of Love,” “I Need Your Love Tonight,” and “I Got Stung,” some of the greatest pieces of hard rock & roll that the King ever cut — and all were recorded in the midst of Elvis’ stay in the Army, in a hastily arranged session in Nashville during June 1958. By this time, his voice was becoming one of the finest instruments in rock & roll, his idolization of Dean Martin and other popular singers paying off with a degree of control and articulation that his rivals could only envy, and it’s all laid out here on what are still some pretty hard-rocking sides.
