AC/DC – Fly on the Wall original Japan LP with obi

AC/DC - Fly on the Wall Japan LP

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Fly on the Wall by AC/DC, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Fly on the Wall is a 1985 pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is M-.  The obi is M-.  The Japanese lyric insert is VG with discoloration from age and a stain from removed cellophane tape on one edge.  The English lyric insert is VG+ with a stain from removed cellophane tape on one edge.

The disc is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a rare AC/DC LP, as their albums sold quite poorly in Japan.

Background: Released in 1985, Fly on the Wall was the ninth album by AC/DC to have international release.

The album reached #32 on the U.S. charts and #7 on the UK charts.

Allmusic.com gave Fly on the Wall a 3 star review:

Fly on the Wall continues AC/DC’s descent into cookie-cutter mediocrity, with the leering humor of past glories seeming forced and uninspired, and the music remaining somewhat underdeveloped and directionless. Brian Johnson’s vocals are mixed far in the background, which is perhaps appropriate since he’s not in very good voice. As with nearly every AC/DC album, there are a few good songs, notably “Shake Your Foundations” and “Sink the Pink” (both of which later showed up on Who Made Who), but overall, Fly on the Wall is the sound of a band desperately trying to revive its career without quite knowing how to recapture the spark that made it great.

The album reached #113 on the U.S. charts, but reached #13 in the UK.

Allmusic.com gave If You Want Blood You’ve Got It a 3 1/2 star review:

AC/DC was fast becoming one of rock’s top live acts by the late ’70s. Few others could match the band’s electrifying live performances: Angus Young’s never-ending energy and wise-ass antics, Bon Scott’s whiskey-soaked vocals, and the rest of the band’s penchant for nailing simple, yet extremely effective and memorable, riffs and grooves. While most other rock bands of the era were busy experimenting with disco or creating studio-perfected epics, AC/DC was one of the few specializing in raw and bluesy hard rock, as evidenced by 1978’s live set, If You Want Blood You’ve Got It. … If You Want Blood You’ve Got It is highly recommended.

AC/DC – For Those About to Rock Japan LP with obi

AC/DC - For Those About to Rock Japan LP

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) by AC/DC, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) is a 1981 Japanese pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is M- with trace corner wear.  The obi is M-.

The insert is VG++ with slight foxing.  A record company questionnaire postcard is included.

The disc is M- and looks like it may have been played once.  Beautiful disc!

A gorgeous copy of a rare AC/DC LP and the nicest copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: For Those About to Rock (We Salute You), released in 1981, was AC/DC’s seventh international release and the second album to feature Brian Johnson on vocals.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts.

Allmusic.com gave For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) a 3 star review:

AC/DC’s hot streak began to draw to a close with For Those About to Rock We Salute You. While Back in Black was infused with the energy and spirit of paying tribute to Bon Scott, it became apparent on the follow-up that the group really did miss Scott more than it initially indicated. Brian Johnson’s lyrics started to seem more calculated and a bit clichéd, lacking Scott’s devil-may-care sense of humor. And the band itself slowed down the tempo frequently, sounding less aggressive and inspired. There is still some decent material here — the title track, for example, which became a concert staple with cannon-firing sound effects.

AC/DC – Powerage Japan LP with obi

ac/dc - powerage japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Powerage by AC/DC, including the original obi.

About this copy: This copy of Powerage is a 1978 pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is VG++, with slight edge wear.  The obi is VG+ with a few wrinkles on the back, but no tears.

The lyric insert is M-.

The disc is M- with a few spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of a rare AC/DC LP.

Background: Powerage, released in 1978, was the fifth album by AC/DC, and the fourth to receive worldwide distribution. It was also their last album before becoming truly famous, as the follow-up to this LP was 1979’s Highway to Hell.

Powerage only reached #133 on the U.S. album charts, but it was eventually certified as platinum by the RIAA for sales of more than one million units.

Allmusic.com gave Powerage a 3 1/2 star review:

Powerage was a first in the sense that it debuted bassist Cliff Williams, but it really is more of a final curtain to the band’s early years. It would be the last produced by Vanda & Young, the legendary Australian production team who also helmed hits by the Easybeats, and it was the last before AC/DC became superstars. As such, it’s perhaps the most overlooked of their ’70s records, also because, frankly, it is the most uneven of them. Not that it’s a bad record — far from it, actually.

AC/DC – Back in Black original Japan LP with obi

ac/dc - back in black japan lp

Offered for sale is an original Japanese pressing of Back in Black by AC/DC, including the original obi and lyric insert.

About this copy: This copy of Back in Black is a 1980 pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is VG++ and close to M-, with slight wear at the mouth.  The obi is M-.  The insert is M-.

The disc is VG++ and close to M-, with a couple of very faint sleeve scuffs and a few spindle marks.

A nice copy of a terrific LP that’s very hard to find as a Japanese pressing.

Background: Released in 1980, Back in Black is the seventh studio album by AC/DC, and one of the best-selling albums of all time.

This was the first album with Brian Johnson on vocals.

The album reached #1 on the U.S. album charts and has sole more than 25 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Allmusic.com gave Back in Black a 5 star review:

The first sound on Back in Black is the deep, ominous drone of church bells — or “Hell’s Bells,” as it were, opening the album and AC/DC’s next era with a fanfare while ringing a fond farewell to Bon Scott, their late lead singer who partied himself straight to hell. … Brian Johnson’s screech is a dead ringer for Scott’s growl. … Song for song, they deliver not just mammoth riffs but songs that are anthems, from the greasy “Shoot to Thrill” to the pummeling “Back in Black,” which pales only next to “You Shook Me All Night Long,” the greatest one-night-stand anthem in rock history. That tawdry celebration of sex is what made AC/DC different from all other metal bands — there was no sword & sorcery, no darkness, just a rowdy party, and they never held a bigger, better party than they did on Back in Black.

About this copy: This copy of Let There Be Rock is a 1977 Japanese pressing on the Atlantic label.

The cover is M-.  The obi is VG++ and close to M- with slight foxing on the back.  The lyric insert is M-.

The disc is M- with one or two spindle marks on the labels, but no marks on the vinyl.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of the hardest Japanese AC/DC album to find and the first copy we’ve ever had for sale.

Background: Released in 1977, Let There Be Rock was the fourth album by AC/DC.

The album reached #19 on the UK album chart and #154 on the U.S. chart, though the album eventually sold more than two million copies in the U.S.

Allmusic.com gave Let There Be Rock a 4 1/2 star review:

Let There Be Rock, the fourth AC/DC album — and first to see simultaneous international release — is as lean and mean as the original lineup ever got. Shaved down to the bone — there are only eight tracks, giving this a lethal efficiency even with a couple of meandering jams — this is a high-voltage, brutal record …- it’s sweaty, dirty, nasty rock, music that is played to the last call and beyond, and they’ve rarely done that kind of rock better than they did here.

Cult – Electric 1987 U.S. LP

the cult electric u.s. lp

Offered for sale is an original U.S. pressing of Electric, the third album by the Cult.

About this copy: This copy of Electric is a 1987 U.S. pressing on the Sire label.

The cover is M-.  The custom inner sleeve is VG++ with a small split at the bottom.

The disc is VG++ and close to M- with a couple of light hairlines on each side.  Clean disc!

A nice copy of an album that’s hard to find on vinyl.

Background: Released in 1987, Electric was the third album by the Cult.

The album reached #4 on the UK album chart and #38 on the U.S. chart.

Allmusic.com gave Electric a 4 1/2 star review:

The roots of Electric lay in another album entirely, Peace, which was recorded with Love producer Steve Brown in a series of sessions that the band found increasingly pressure-filled and fraught with tension. A chance meeting with Def Jam supremo Rick Rubin at an American awards ceremony turned out to be the charm, resulting in the saucy chest-baring stomp of Electric. Rubin chucked all the old recordings for a series of new sessions, stripping everything down and essentially transforming Billy Duffy into the logical successor to AC/DC’s Angus Young. Thankfully Ian Astbury decided not to become Brian Johnson, and while his macho yells can’t help being cartoonish, he’s clearly having fun throughout. Though both band and album caught a lot of flak for their perceived wallowing in dinosaur sounds and styles, the end result is still a fist-punching yelp of energy that demands to be heard at maximum volume in arenas, with a brusque punch in Les Warner’s drums to match Duffy’s power-chord action.
