Offered for sale is an original stereo pressing of the Yardbirds Greatest Hits, release in 1966.  The disc is still sealed in the plastic inner sleeve.

The Yardbirds are one of the most influential groups of the British Invasion, having had Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on lead guitar during their brief time as recording artists.  They also had a string of hits, and were far more successful in the United States than they were in their native Britain.

That might account for the fact that their American label, Epic, released far more material in the United States than their UK label, Columbia, did in Britain.  By 1966, the Yardbirds had released three albums and a greatest hits LP in the states, but only a single studio album, Roger the Engineer, and a live album, Five Live Yardbirds, in Britain.

This 1966 release, The Yardbirds Greatest Hits, takes tracks from their first three American LPs: Having a Raveup With the Yardbirds, For Your Love, and Over Under Sideways Down, along with two singles – “Shapes of Things” and “Happenings Ten Years Time Ago.”  The latter song features both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page on guitar; this is the only song the band recorded with two of their famous guitarists playing guitar on the same track.  Neither of these two songs appears on any other original American album.

The Yardbirds Greatest Hits was released in both mono and rechanneled stereo on the yellow Epic label, and we’re unable to recall if any of the “stereo” tracks on this album are in true stereo or not.  Later pressings were on the short-lived orange label that Epic used in the 1970s.

Songs on this LP:

Shapes of Things
Still I’m Sad
New York City Blues
For Your Love
Over Under Sideways Down
I’m a Man
Happenings Ten Years Time Ago
Heart Full of Soul
Smokestack Lightning
I’m Not Talking

The cover is in VG+ condition, with slight wear.  You almost never see this album with a mint cover.  The record is still sealed in the original perforated plastic inner sleeve, and is presumably mint and unplayed.

A rare example of a sealed copy of a terrific album.
