Willie Nelson – Stardust half speed mastered LP

A high quality, half speed mastered copy of Willie Nelson's classic 1978 LP, Stardust.

$40.00

Offered for sale is a half speed mastered pressing of Willie Nelson’s 1978 classic, Stardust.

Stardust came as a bit of a surprise for fans of Willie Nelson and country music, as Willie abandoned his outlaw country temporarily to embrace an album of standards.  Produced by Booker T. Jones, the album drew the attention of a of people who wouldn’t ordinarily listen to a Willie Nelson record, as well as audiophiles, who were truly astonished at how good the recording sounded.

AllMusic.com gave the album five stars:

It may be strange to think that this album, containing no originals from one of America’s greatest songwriters, is what made him a star, and it continues to be one of his most beloved records, but it’s appropriate, actually. Stardust showcases Nelson‘s skills as a musician and his entire aesthetic — where there is nothing separating classic American musical forms, it can all be played together — perhaps better than any other album, which is why it was a sensation upon its release and grows stronger with each passing year.

The copy offered for sale is a limited edition pressing in Columbia’s short-lived half speed mastered series, which lasted from 1980-1983, in which they released a number of then-new and vintage titles in high-quality, half speed mastered editions.  These records were mastered with both the tape deck and the cutting lathe running at half speed, which produces deeper bass and better imaging than standard pressings.  In addition, these records, which sold for a substantial premium over the regular pressings of the album, were pressed on high quality virgin vinyl.  Mobile Fidelity’s audiophile pressings are better known than those from Columbia, but Columbia’s half speed mastered pressings are, for the most part, exceptionally good ones, and this album is no exception.

The record is M-, with just one super-faint sleeve scuff on the disk.  It appears to have only been played a couple of times. The cover is VG, with wear on the edges and corners and some glue residue from the removal of a price sticker.

A great sounding copy of a terrific album.
