The Grass Roots – Golden Disk Japan 2 LP set with obi

A copy of the 2 LP Japan-only Golden Disk compilation by the Grass Roots.

$75.00

Offered for sale is a scarce 2 LP compilation by the Grass Roots called Golden Disk, issued only in Japan.

The Grass Roots are best remembered for their hit singles, rather than their albums, and they did have a lot of hit singles.  Between 1966 and 1972, they put 15 songs in the American Top 40, and managed to get three into the Top 10.

Many of their hits were written by P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, who were in-house songwriters for Dunhill Records, the band’s American label.

While their hits were terrific, their albums were a bit uneven, as the non-single tracks simply weren’t as good as the hits.

About this record: This album is a 2 record greatest hits package by the Grass Roots called Golden Disk.  The album was released only in Japan in 1972, and includes the following songs:

Mr Jones
Where Were You When I Needed You
Let’s Live for Today
Things I Should Have SaidWake Up, Wake Up
Melody for You
Feelings

Midnight Confessions
Bella Linda
Lovin’ Things
The River is Wide
The Days of Pearly Spencer
Fly Me to Havana
Pain

Heaven Knows
Wait a Million Years
Walking Through the Country
Melinda Love
Out of This World
Something’s Comin’ Over Me
I’m Livin’ For You Girl

Baby Hold On
I Can Turn Off the Rain
Come On and Say It
Temptation Eyes
Sooner or Later
Two Divided By Love
Glory Bound

All of their Top 40 hits are here except for their last one – “The Runway.”

The textured, cloth-covered cover is VG+, with a small stain on the back.  The obi is in good condition.  It’s all there, but has a repaired tear and some wrinkles.  The “hojyuhyo”, or reorder tag, is still attached.

The two discs are M- and appear to have had very little play.  A lyric booklet is enclosed.

A nice copy of a scarce LP.
