A scarce half speed mastered pressing of Olivia Newton-John's 1981 LP, Physical.
Offered for sale is a scarce, half speed mastered audiophile pressing of Olivia Newton-John’s 1981 LP, Physical, released by MCA records.
During the early 1980s, a number of record companies noticed that Mobile Fidelity was having success selling high-quality, half speed mastered pressings on quality vinyl at a premium price. CBS and MCA decided to try pressing such records themselves and while CBS had some success with the format, MCA did not. Physical was one of only a handful of titles released in this format before MCA decided to give up. That’s a pity, as their pressings were quite good and this LP in particular sounds great.
As for the album, AllMusic.com gave it 4 1/2 stars:
“Physical” became such a monster hit — not just a hit, but a pop-culture phenomenon that was impossible to escape — that it became difficult to view its accompanying album as anything other than a conduit for the single. The thing was, Physical was a damn good record, in many ways one of Olivia Newton-John’s very best. Picking up where Totally Hot and Xanadu left off, Physical skillfully balances catchy yet mellow dance cuts with immaculately crafted adult contemporary pop and ballads. The title track, of course, is the best example of the dance side, but “Landslide,” “Make a Move on Me,” and “Promise (Dolphin Song)” illustrate that Physical wasn’t a one-hit record at all — if anything, they hold up better than the big hit. There is some filler here — none of her records were free from that curse — but it’s well-made filler and helps make Physical one of the most enjoyable albums of her career.
The copy offered for sale is in very nice condition. The record is M- and appears to have had little, if any play. The cover is VG++, with just bits of wear at the corners. The custom inner sleeve and photo insert are M- and included.
A nice copy of a great-sounding LP.
