A 45 RPM, 4 LP test pressing of Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy, pressed by Classic Records in 2006 for inclusion in the Led Zeppelin Road Case
Offered for sale is a test pressing copy of the 4 LP, 200 gram, 45 RPM Classic Records reissue of Led Zeppelin’s 1973 LP, Houses of the Holy.
In 2006, Classic Records released what has become known as the Led Zeppelin Road Case, a 48 record set that included all of the band’s albums. Each album was pressed on 200 gram Quiex vinyl, cut at 45 RPM for optimum sound quality, and pressed on single-sided discs for technical reasons. The Road Case was a limited edition and there were only 150 or 300 sets sold, depending on whom you ask. While Classic Records planned to issue all of the albums in the set separately as single-sided, 45 RPM pressings, they never did get around to doing that before they went out of business in 2010. They did, however, press a handful of test pressings of each of the titles for evaluation purposes, perhaps 10-20 of each title.
The set offered for sale is a 4 record, 45 RPM pressing of their fifth studio album, 1973’s Houses of the Holy. The records have blank RTI labels with the date September 21, 2006 stamped on them. The covers are plain white, with the date, the catalog number and the appropriate side number (A1, A2, B1, B2) stamped on them. Records and covers are M-; the records have been played perhaps twice.
A beautiful copy of an exceedingly rare Led Zeppelin item.
