Julie London – Calendar Girl still sealed 1956 mono LP with gatefold cover

A sealed copy of Julie London's iconic album Calendar Girl

$150.00

Julie London is best remembered today as the actress who played nurse Dixie McCall in the 1970s TV show Emergency!  Prior to becoming a household staple on television, she was a recording artist who released some 30 albums for Liberty Records between 1955 and 1969.  She was a terrific singer with a sultry voice, and she enjoyed success recording with both small jazz combos and large orchestras.  Liberty Records rather shamelessly took advantage of the fact that she was attractive, packaging most of her albums in covers depicting cheesecake photos.

The album offered for sale is no exception.  Calendar Girl, Liberty SL-9002 was released in 1956 and was Julie’s only American album to feature a gatefold cover.  The album contained thirteen songs, each addressing a different month of the year, and the cover depicted a different photo of Julie for each month of the year, along with a large photo of her inside the cover.  Offered at a higher price than her other recordings, Calendar Girl didn’t sell particularly well, but is highly sought out by collectors today as much for the cover as for the recordings inside.

The record, a second pressing on the early 1960s multicolored Liberty label, is still sealed in its plastic inner sleeve and has never been opened or played.

The gatefold cover is in VG condition, with slight wear on the spine and a small tear on the inner spine of the gatefold cover.

This is a beautiful, unplayed example of one of the harder albums to find by one of America’s finest female torch singers.
