An original UK pressing of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1968 LP Two Virgins
Offered for sale is an original 1968 UK pressing of Two Virgins: Unfinished Music No. 1 by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
John Lennon’s first “solo” album was actually a non-musical work in collaboration with Yoko Ono. Titled, Two Virgins: Unfinished Music No. 1, the album immediately became notorious for its cover art, which depicted both John and Yoko in the nude. While released as-is in the UK, the album was sold in the United States with a brown paper slipcover over the actual cover.
While U.S. copies are fairly rare (and have been heavily counterfeited), copies from the UK are substantially harder to find. The album only sold a few thousand copies in the UK in stereo (and a few hundred in mono via mail order). EMI refused to distribute the record in the UK, so this LP was pressed and distributed by Track Records, and bears both Track and Apple catalog numbers.
This copy is an original UK pressing, with SAPCOR 2A-1 stamped on side one and SAPCOR 2B-1 stamped on side two. Stamper is “T” on side one and “GP” on side two. Mother is number is 1 on both sides.
The disc is VG+; it looks to have had relatively little play but does have some sleeve scuffs on the vinyl and a couple of spindle marks. The cover is VG, with some bits of dirt on the top and bottom of the back cover and lamination cracking on the front and back along the spine. The original black inner sleeve is included and has no splits, though it does have a few wrinkles.
A nice early pressing of a record that is very hard to find as a UK pressing.
