An original stereo pressing of Harry Belafonte's 1959 LP, Belafonte at Carnegie Hall
Offered for sale is an original stereo pressing of Harry Belafonte’s 1959 2 LP set, Belafonte at Carnegie Hall.
As one of the earliest “live” albums by any popular artist, Belafonte at Carnegie Hall, released in 1959, was a longtime best seller as well as an audiophile favorite. It’s a great recording of terrific performances, and it was reissued on a number of occasions by Classic Records in various formats before the label went out of business in 2010.
The copy offered for sale is an original 1959 RCA pressing and all four sides have 1s stampers, indicating that this is an original, “day of release” pressing. Many collectors seek out early pressings of RCA LPs, as some believe that the earlier pressings sound better. This particular copy is not mint, but is a nice VG+ on both the cover and discs. There are a few scuffs and a bit of wear on the cover, but it’s a nice, fairly clean, playable copy. A hype sticker promoting RCA’s mysterious anti-static ingredient 317x is attached to the front cover. This first pressing also has the song titles on the back cover printed on a sticker, rather than the cover itself. There’s a price written on the sticker in pencil.
A nice early pressing of an iconic live album.
