A sealed copy of the rare soundtrack LP to the 1970 film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, featuring the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Lynn Carey
Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of the rare soundtrack album to the 1970 film, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
After the success of the 1967 film, The Valley of the Dolls, 20th Century Fox was looking for a sequel. Negotiations with author Jacqueline Susann didn’t work out, and in the end, a non-sequel, written by director Russ Meyer and Chicago film critic Roger Ebert, came to be as Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. With the tagline – “NOT a sequel – there has never been anything like it!”, the film went on to become a big moneymaker for the studio and over the years the film has developed a large cult following.
As the plot of the film covered the trials and tribulations of a an all-girl rock band, the soundtrack featured a number of pop/rock songs, voiced by Mama Lion singer Lynn Carey, as well as one song by the Strawberry Alarm Clock and orchestral tunes by Stu Phillips. The LP sold poorly, as did the singles released from it, and the album soon went out of print. That’s a pity; there are some great original tunes on the album, and several of them probably should have been hits.
Here’s a sample track, Come With the Gentle People:
Offered for sale is a still sealed copy of that soundtrack album. The record is unopened, unplayed, and is presumed to be perfectly mint. The wrap has a tear where a price sticker was removed in the upper right hand cover, and there is also a punch hole in the cover. Otherwise, there are no bends, rips, tears or other damage.
This is a beautiful, still sealed copy of a record that is surprisingly hard to find.
