A rare 1973 radio show featuring Alice Cooper, Al Green, Patti Labelle and Johnny Mathis
Offered for sale is a rare 1973 radio show produced for the Army Reserve, featuring music and interviews with Alice Cooper, along with Johnny Mathis, Al Green, and Labelle.
There were several different radio shows produced in the 1970s to promote the Army Reserve – Nightbird & Company, featuring rock material with host Alison Steele, Skitch and Company, featuring MOR material with host Skitch Henderson, and Rap & Rhythm with Al Gee, a show that featured R&B performers.
These shows were usually sent out to subscribing stations individually. The LP offered for sale here is a sampler LP designed to get stations to subscribe to one or more of the offered shows, but the LP itself was not intended for broadcast and says “not for broadcast” on both the cover and the label.
Side one features a Skitch and Company segment featuring Johnny Mathis, along with two Rap & Rhythm segments featuring Al Green and Labell.
Side two is a NIghtbird and Company show featuring Alice Cooper and including material from his then-new Billion Dollar Babies LP.
We’ve had a few Nightbird shows over the years, but this is the first time we’ve ever had this rare sampler.
Cover and record are M-; we’re not sure the record has ever been played. A nice example of a very rare Alice Cooper item.
